Unfortunately, I was unable to pull together a rock band with the students... maybe next time. The musical instruments stayed on the shelf, and instead we discussed our favorite parts about fall and Halloween, acted out things associated with the holiday (witches, goblins, etc), and sang "The Ghost of John". Apparently, the music teacher always starts the class by singing the song to demonstrate how it sounds. When the kids asked where my solo was I replied, "Oh, it's right here!" and turned on the CD player.
While I may not have lost the ability to "bend the truth" to children, I HAVE lost my teaching endurance. I don't know if it was the rushing around from class to class, the fact that the kids were a bit more of a handful than I anticipated, or if my body was just very confused as to why it was rising at 6 am, and not on the couch, but the entire day exhausted me. RJ and I said we were going to take the week off from drinking to recover from our "all you can drink honeymoon", but at the end of the day, I decided my return to work- as a music teacher no less- warranted a glass of wine.
I recovered from the slap of reality by eating leftovers and drinking wine on the couch, while RJ and I watched John Stewart and Modern Family. I made him rub my back, and he laughed at my impressions of what first graders singing in rounds sounded like.
All in all, it was a good day, minus the exhaustion, and it was so nice to get up, get dressed, and have a purpose. Being back in a school felt really comfortable, and I loved spending the day with cute kids. Alas, no calls for substitute jobs came today, so I'm back to my old ways- The Kennedys on Netflix, and blogging on the couch. Truthfully, I would rather be working.... boredom is almost as bad as teaching exhaustion. The silver lining is that I have Fitty today, so I am off to go do some birthday present shopping for some of my favorites at the best store ever.
Oh, and just in case you forgot the song "Ghost of John", here's a clip to watch. This was pretty much my day yesterday.... on repeat. We may not have had those cute costumes or decorations, but we DID step it up and sing the song as a round. Because we're badass like that.
